It’s Not You, It’s Them: The Tell-Tale Signs You Need a New IT Provider

Choosing An IT Provider

No one enjoys ending a relationship. So even if you’re feeling unhappy or let down, there’s always a temptation to stick it out. To make do with what you’ve got, instead of ending things.

It’s just the same when a business is thinking of switching IT provider. They might feel that they’re giving too much and not getting enough back, or that they’re no longer a good match. But even when they start getting these doubts, some people prefer to stick with the status quo instead of exploring who else is out there. This can be down to a lack of time to investigate alternative providers, a lack of confidence in making a good choice or just plain apathy.

Whatever the reason that’s an IT problem, because when you’re not getting a good IT service, it affects every part of your business – slowing you down, causing a lot of frustration, and hampering the service you offer your customers. Plus, you’re missing out on all the opportunities a more attentive and imaginative IT provider would be able to offer.

So how do you know when to make a change? Here are our 6 tell-tale signs that it’s time to move on:

Unjustifiable costs

Sure, the lowest price isn’t always the best value for money. But if you feel you’re getting less bang for your buck than you should be – or you used to – that’s not a great sign. And the same goes for any extra costs you’re paying that you don’t understand.

Communication issues

Communication is the foundation of any healthy relationship, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to IT support. As a client, you need your IT supplier to communicate with you in a regular and timely way, and explain things in language that you can understand. If interactions with your IT provider is leaving you feeling frustrated or confused then time to move on.

Slow response times

You want your supplier to be busy and successful so they can continue to deliver the service you need. But if they’re so busy they can’t return your calls or fix IT issues quickly, it’s best to find someone who can give you the time and attention you deserve.

Recurring tech problems

No IT provider can ever 100% guarantee that you’ll never experience any tech issues. If only. But when IT problems become the rule rather than the exception, it’s a sure sign you need to switch.

Lack of innovation

To keep a relationship fresh, it’s important to keep coming up with new ideas. But all too often, IT providers just sit back and manage the technology you already have. Instead, you need a provider who’s always on the lookout for innovations that can move your business forward, save you money and give you a competitive edge.

Changes in your business

Just like in any relationship, it’s possible to outgrow your IT provider. Maybe you’ve taken on more staff, opened new offices, or expanded your market or products. If your IT support provider can’t keep up with your growing business, it’s time to look elsewhere.
